Film Nominated for Award at International Film Festival

Jason Tannen, Department of Art and Art History, California State University, Chico, has just had his film “The Pressman Negatives” nominated for a “Tinny Award” in the Film Noir category at the 2008 Swansea Film Festival. This international film festival takes place May 31–June 7 in Swansea Bay, United Kingdom. The festival will screen 175 films. “Pressman” was nominated along with five other films in the noir category. Full Story

California High Schools to Compete in Global Social Enterprise Competition

Student teams from 17 high schools across California will compete in the sixth annual Students for the Advancement of Global Entrepreneurship (SAGE) tournament in Sacramento this Saturday, April 26. The top four teams advancing from the preliminary round will repeat their multimedia presentations before a panel of over 120 leaders from academia, nonprofit organizations and the business sector, who will judge in the afternoon. Hundreds of Middle and High School Students to compete in the Northern California MESA Day at CSU, Chico, April 26

Trebuchets, model bridges, mousetrap cars, physiological replicas and gliders are some of the design competitions to be held at the Northern California MESA Day on Saturday, April 26, at California State University, Chico. More than 500 middle and high school students, from the Oregon border to the Bay Area, will showcase their projects and engage in a variety of fun, hands-on math, science and engineering competitive events. Students have earned the opportunity to participate in this regional round of competitions through their winning placement at similar preliminary events in their communities. Full Story

CSU, Chico Once Again Tops Among Colleges Raising Funds for St. Jude

uptildawn1.gifFor the second year in a row, California State University, Chico is the top collegiate fund-raiser for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, Tenn., topping all other schools with a total of $183,561 raised to date during the 2007-2008 academic year. CSU, Chico set new records this year for the number of volunteers taking part to raise money – 2,021 – and the number of letters sent out requesting support, which was in excess of 37,000. The University kicked off its fund-raising effort Nov. 5, 2007, with the popular Up ’til Dawn event held in Acker Gym. Full Story
