The Up 'til Dawn event at California State University, Chico has moved from "star of the week" to just "star" for its fundraising efforts on behalf of St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis. With a final tally of $186,000 raised by students through the Nov. 7, 2006 event, the Chico project became the highest money-raising project ever, with the highest number of participants writing the highest number of letters. California State University, Chico Manufacturing Technology Program students once again won the Grand Prize in the prestigious WESTEC (Western Tool Exposition and Conference) Manufacturing Challenge on March 26 for an automated biodiesel processing system. The challenge was held at the Los Angeles Convention Center. Full Story

Paul Altesman, former director of the United Nations' Children's Fund and organizer of various international humanitarian assistance projects on behalf of the UN secretary general, will visit Chico on April 17 and 18 to present public lectures. Full Story

California State University, Chico's largest student award event, the University Awards Reception, will be held Wednesday, April 18, 3-5 p.m., in the Bell Memorial Union Auditorium. The event is free and the public is invited to attend. Full Story

Professors Allan Stam of Dartmouth College and Allen Weiner of Stanford Law School will speak on "The War on Terror: Normative and Legal Implications" on Thursday, April 5, at 8 p.m. in Ayres 106. An executive producer for an Emmy Award-winning creative studio, an editor/producer in motion picture advertising and a sports writer for the Sacramento Bee are among the alumni returning to California State University, Chico for the School of Communication's Connect 2007 event on April 4 and 5. An important event during Earth Month will bring one of the foremost environmentalists of our times to Chico to deliver the annual Rawlins Lecture and will also be the occasion for the presentation of an honorary doctorate to Jack Rawlins, an environmental advocate who has done much to advance environmental literacy at California State University, Chico. Educational researcher Stephen Silverman, professor of education at Columbia University, will present a public lecture on Wednesday, March 28, 5-7 p.m. in Yolo 109/112 at California State University, Chico.
