Friends of Meriam Library Hold Annual Book Sale

The Friends of Meriam Library, California State University, Chico, will hold their annual book sale on Thursday, April 7, from 9 am to 3 pm in the breezeway in front of the library. The library receives donations in all areas of interest, from popular fiction to business to science. This year’s sale also features a selection of California topographic maps. “These are great books at great prices for a great cause,” said Carolyn Dusenbury, director of Library Services at Meriam Library. The proceeds from the sale support projects that could not happen otherwise, such as preservation of rare books and restoration of maps. Full Story

Moot Court Competitors Tackle Version of '10 Commandments' Case

The controversy over the Alabama courthouse "10 Commandments" monument is at the center of California State University, Chico's well-known undergraduate moot court competition this year. Oral arguments in a hypothetical case testing the separation of church and state get underway on campus today, May 2, with the competition continuing throughout the week.
Sixty-four political science and pre-law students in teams of two present their sides to a panel of three judges. Winners go on to the next round, with the final hearing Friday, May 6, at 6 p.m. in the Chico City Council Chambers. An awards presentation follows the announcement of the winning team. The public is welcome and encouraged to attend. Full Story

Geographical Information Systems Provides Aerial Mosaics for Art Installation at Sacramento International Airport

Aerial views of 50 miles of the Sacramento River, provided by Chuck Nelson, director of the Geographical Information Center (GIS), California State University, Chico, are woven into a carpet for a pedestrian bridge at the airport. Out of the aerial views, artist Seyed Alavi has created “Flying Carpet,” a site-specific project for Sacramento International Airport. Full Story
