Liberal Studies Senior Wins Glenn Kendall Public Service Award

Hannah Westphal, a liberal studies senior graduating in May from California State University, Chico, has been named as the recipient of the 2005 Glenn Kendall Public Service Award. The award was established in 1970 in recognition of former CSU, Chico president Glenn Kendall, who placed public service at the top of his professional priorities. He dedicated his career to encouraging faculty and students to do likewise. Full Story

Autism Clinic Provides Unique Service to Kids and Parents

Rebecca Lytle, coordinator of the Adapted Physical Education (APE) Program, California State University, Chico, saw a need for a lab devoted just to children with autism and their parents, and proceeded to meet it. Lytle, with help from APE graduate students, created the first lab experience especially for children with autism in the fall of 2003. Full Story

More than $500,000 in Scholarships Available to Special Education Credential Candidates

California State University, Chico’s Special Education Teacher Preparation Program within the Department of Professional Studies in Education has recently awarded a total of $345,000 in scholarships to 53 graduate students. Additional awards are available to qualified applicants. The money comes from four grants awarded to the program by the United States Department of Education Office of Special Education and Rehabilitative Services, said Mary Jensen of the Department of Professional Studies in Education. April Madness: California High School Students Compete in Entrepreneurship Tournament

Sixteen high school teams from across California will travel to California State University, Chico Saturday, April 2, to compete in a tournament. But it’s not an athletic contest—rather, it’s a contest based on entrepreneurship and community service. The tournament, sponsored by a CSU, Chico student organization called Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE), is called California SAGE. Full Story

Eagle Lake Field Station Offers Facilities for Field Courses and Research

The Eagle Lake Field Station (ELFS) is accepting reservations for late spring, summer and fall 2005. The station, an 11-building facility owned and managed by California State University, Chico and the CSU, Chico Research Foundation, is located 26 miles northwest of Susanville in Lassen County on the eastern shore of Eagle Lake. ELFS is available to those wishing to conduct primarily academic activities consistent with the isolation and natural setting of the station. Groups have used the station for field biology, ecology and archaeology courses, field research, workshops, seminars, professional meetings and academic retreats. Full Story
