Several student organizations at California State University, Chico have joined together to form the Chico State Hurricane Relief Coalition to raise money for the American Red Cross. Originally comprised of Phi Delta Theta, Sigma Nu and Alpha Phi organizations, the coalition has grown to include many other student organizations such as the Associated Students, Residence Hall Association (RHA), Community Action Volunteers in Education (CAVE) and the National Society for Black Engineers (NSBE). An upgraded and safer outside play area is the most recent renovation to the Child Development Laboratory (formerly known as the CDL) as part of the Windows to their World Campaign (WW), begun in 1998. Full Story

Mechanical engineering students are getting hands-on experience with solar electric power technology, thanks to a new portable photovoltaic power system lab. The lab is the brainchild of Professor Greg Kallio, chair of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronic Engineering and Manufacturing Technology, and other faculty and students who saw the need for improved educational opportunities in renewable energy. The Pacific-Cascade Psychological Association (PCPA) will present Dr. David Lechuga, neuropsychologist and president of the California Psychological Association at their first fall meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 20. His lecture is titled "Use of Neuropsychological Testing to Prevent Complications Associated with Sports-Related Concussions in High School Athletes." Full Story

Michael Magliari, professor of history, California State University, Chico, has received the 2005 Ray Allen Billington Award from the Western History Association (WHA) for his article "Free Soil, Unfree Labor: Cave Johnson Couts and the Binding of Indian Workers in California, 1850-1867." The Fastbreak Booster Club and the Chico State Women's Basketball Team are hosting the 2005 Women's Basketball Scholarship Dinner and Pre-Season Tip-Off. The event is slated for Saturday, Sept. 17, with cocktails at 6 pm and dinner at 7:15 pm in the BMU Auditorium. Full Story

Three short documentaries now showing at the Bidwell Park Centennial exhibit, "100 Years of Gratitude," were created by California State University, Chico students through an independent study project with Professor Teresa Bergman, Department of Communication Design. Full Story

Adjunct School of Social Work faculty members, Gary Bess, PhD, and Jim Myers, MSW, participated on a panel in Paris, France, July 4, organized by the International Association for Law and Mental Health. Joining Bess and Myers was Butte County Superior Court Judge Stephen Benson. Full Story
