Design Psychologist To Speak About Campus Planning
Susan Painter, PhD, a design psychologist known for her illustrated lectures on campus planning and brain development, will speak at California State University, Chico on Wednesday, Oct. 19, from 2-4 p.m. in PAC 134. Painter, invited to campus by President Paul Zingg and Vice President of Business and Finance Dennis Graham, will discuss how our responses to the campus-and to any physical environment-are hard-wired in our brains. These responses come from our ancestors' choices of environments that improved their chances of survival. Full Story

Charitable and Educational Events Continue in Response to Hurricane Katrina; Fund-Raising Across Campus Tops $20,000
On Monday, Oct. 10, Community Action Volunteers in Education (CAVE) is sponsoring a candlelight walk, a program and an informational fair to recognize hurricane victims and volunteers. This is the latest in numerous efforts by California State University, Chico, in conjunction with community partners, to assist people left in need in the wake of Hurricane Katrina and Rita. Arboretum Tours Begin October 19
A series of free tree tours is being sponsored by the California State Parks and California State University, Chico to see the fine collection of plants on the campus and at Bidwell Mansion State Park. The walks will start on Wednesday, Oct. 19, and continue every two weeks on Nov. 2, 16, and 30. The easy and informative walks will start at 10 am in front of the Bidwell Mansion and last about one hour. Full Story

Teachers Training Teachers Program for Teachers from Russia
California State University, Chico, in collaboration with the Chico Unified School District and other local schools and organizations, is conducting a three-week program called Teachers Training Teachers, with the purpose of preparing Russian teachers to provide workshops to their colleagues when they return to Russia. Ten Russian educators will arrive on Oct. 13. The program provides professional development workshops, site visits and experience-America activities. Full Story

21st Annual Chico Science Fair Seeks Projects and Sponsors
The 21st Annual Chico Science Fair will be held March 6-10 at the Silver Dollar Fairgrounds. Last year, more than 1,200 participants exhibited 580 student projects. Many of them were awarded prizes, ribbons and certificates for their projects; all of them received important learning opportunities. Full Story

Chico Chapter Mixer Kicks off Alumni and Parents Weekend
The fourth annual Chico Alumni Chapter Mixer will be held on Thursday, Oct. 6 at the Warrens Reception Center. It kicks off the three-day Alumni and Parents Weekend, Oct. 6-8, at California State University, Chico. The weekend will offer reunions, a Golden Grads dinner for the class of 1955, entertainment and a barbecue for parents and students. Full Story

AIDS Memorial Quilt is Coming to CSU, Chico
Twenty panels of the AIDS Memorial Quilt, the largest ongoing community art project in the world, are coming to California State University, Chico on Oct. 19 and 20. They will be displayed in the Bell Memorial Union Auditorium from 9 am until 7 pm each day. Full Story
