The Center for Economic Development at California State University, Chico is hosting a Tourism Workshop Series to be held in four northern coastal cities over a four-day period during the last week of September. The first workshop will be held in Crescent City on Sept. 27, the second in Arcata on Sept. 28, the third in Fort Bragg on Sept. 29, and the fourth in Ukiah on Sept. 30. This series offers two back-to-back workshops, "The 15 Immutable Rules of Successful Tourism" and "Marketing on a Miniscule Budget," beginning at 7:30 a.m. and ending at noon. Full Story

On Nov. 4, 2004, the Center for Economic Development at California State University, Chico is hosting the Graying of the North State Project and Summit to be held at the Red Lion Hotel, 1830 Hilltop Drive, Redding, CA from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The Graying of the North State Summit will showcase the findings of a two-year project funded by The California Endowment. The California State University, Chico Mathematics Engineering Science Achievement (MESA) Program has received $389,596 from the National Science Foundation for scholarships to engineering/math and computer science students. The Museum of Anthropology, California State University, Chico, will open a new exhibit, "Moving Mountains: A Cultural Journey of the Hmong of Butte County," on Dec. 7. The exhibit will run through July 2005. Full Story

Judith Carney, professor of Geography at UCLA and author of “Black Rice: The African Origins of Rice Cultivation in the Americas” will speak at California State University, Chico on Sept. 21 at 7 p.m. in Harlen Adams Theatre. The talk is free and open to the public. Full Story
