Civil Engineering Students Win Regional Competition

For the fifth consecutive year, California State University, Chico engineering students have won the Mid-Pacific Region Steel Bridge Competition, held at UC Davis April 27-29. They will be traveling to Clemson University, South Carolina, over Memorial Day weekend to defend the national title they won last year. Full Story

California State University, Chico and the Superior Court of California Present Conference for Families, Children and the Courts

California State University, Chico's Center for Regional and Continuing Education and the Butte County Family & Children's Division of the Superior Court of California present In Service to Families, Children and the Courts, a one-day conference designed to prepare professionals who interact with family court services.

Family Court Services staff, psychologists, social workers, therapists, family law attorneys and anyone with an interest in family court is encouraged to attend this conference held Monday, May 21, from 8 a.m.-5 p.m., at the Lakeside Pavilion in Chico. Conference cost is $89 for registrations received on or before May 14, $114 for registrations received after that date. To enroll call 530-898-6105 or visit theconferencewebsite.

This conference meets the four-hour domestic violence update training requirement for court-appointed child custody evaluators and investigators. The conference also provides eight hours of continuing education credit for MFTs, LCSWs, psychologists, attorneys and nurses.

New methods of effective intervention related to court-appointed child custody evaluations and investigations will be presented. In addition, conference experts will update participants on the changes in state and local court practices, and identify ways to build collaborative relationships to best serve the child.

Conference presenters include Julia Weber from the Administrative Office of the Courts' Center for Family, Children, and the Courts; Vahan Hovsepian, administrator in the Family and Children's Division, Butte County Superior Court; and Anastacia Snyder of Catalyst Women's Advocates. Certified family law specialists Dennis Harvey and Les Hait and family law attorneys Elisabeth Harvey, Monica O'Neil and Gregory Brislain will lead panel presentations. Judge William Patrick from the Superior Court of Butte County, Family and Children's Division will present the court's perspective.
