Women's History Month Events Scheduled

Women's History Month Events Scheduled

California State University, Chico celebrates Women's History Month by hosting events scheduled throughout the month of March. The following are some of the main events:

* The CSU, Chico Women's Center is having a benefit show March 11 at 9 p.m. at 319 Main St. The show features Force Seven with DJ BadRock, The Imps, Becky Sagers and Los Papa Chulos. The show is sponsored by Mr. Lucky's bar.

* Author Loung Ung will speak March 15 at 7:30 p.m. in Harlen Adams Theatre. The CSU, Chico Women's Center is sponsoring the author of the newly released book, "First They Killed My Father: A Daughter of Cambodia Remembers."

Ung is a national spokesperson for the "Campaign for a Landmine Free World," which received the 1997 Nobel Peace Prize. Tickets can be purchased at the University Box Office. An additional fee will apply to tickets purchased at the door the night of the event.

* South African writer Lynn Freed will give two talks on March 30 and 31. Her free public lecture, "Living Between Two Worlds," will be given Thursday, March 30, at 7 p.m. in the Roland Taylor Recital Hall (PAC134). Freed will also participate in a round-table discussion of her life and work in the Humanities Center (Trinity 126) at 3 p.m. before her lecture on March 30.

On Friday, March 31, at 9 a.m. Freed will be a guest speaker at the Conversations on Diversity Series in the Humanities Center (Trinity 126).

Through her talks Freed will share her thoughts and experiences of living between two worlds; her native South Africa and her adopted homeland of the United States. Freed discusses the pains and privileges of having access to both yet belonging fully to neither. Freed is the author of "Heart of Change," "Home Ground," "The Bungalow" and "The Mirror. "
