Noted Scholar Lectures on 'Humanist Environmentalism'
On Monday, October 9, 2000, the President's Visiting Scholars Program and Committee on Arts and Lectures at California State University, Chico are pleased to welcome world renowned scholar Dr. William Cronon, who will present a provocative public lecture titled "Humanist Environmentalism: A Manifesto." Visiting Professor from Romania to Lecture at CSU, Chico
California State University, Chico's College of Agriculture will host Professor Angheluta Vadineanu, head of the Department of Systems Ecology at the University of Bucharest, in October. His visit is part of a two-year collaborative research program on water quality management and is funded by the National Research Council. Full Story

Award-Winning Film on Zapotec Women Showing at California State University, Chico
Writers have described them as "guardians of men, distributors of food." Artists Miguel Covarrubias, Frida Kahlo and others have celebrated their beauty and intelligence in paintings. The legendary Zapotec women of southern Mexico are subjects of a new award-winning film "Blossoms of Fire" produced, directed and edited by veteran filmmaker Maureen Gosling. The film will be shown on the California State University, Chico campus September 28, 5-7 p.m. in Ayres Hall 106. Full Story

Big-name Speakers, Eclectic Concerts Highlight Chico Performances
California State University, Chico's Chico Performances begins another full season of varied offerings to the area, with a comic operetta, car show, and violin concert this week.,P> "Naughty Marietta," a comic operetta of love and adventure, opens tonight and plays through Sept. 17 in the Harlen Adams Theatre. Tickets are available for 7:30 p.m. shows Sept. 14-16 and 2 p.m. shows Sept. 16 and 17. Award-winning violinist Stefan Milenkovich performs tomorrow, Sept. 14, at 7:30 p.m. in Rowland-Taylor Recital Hall.
