This Way to Sustainability IV Conference Presents Six Keynote Speakers

The Fourth Annual This Way to Sustainability Conference will be held Nov. 6–8 (with a Student Convergence on Nov. 9) at California State University, Chico. The conference, co-sponsored by CSU, Chico and Butte Community College, is now the largest conference of its kind in the country. It will feature five keynote speakers and more than 90 workshops on a wide range of environmental and sustainability-related topics.

The speakers include author and economist Michael Shuman; Jeana Wirtenberg, co-founder and director, Institute for Sustainable Enterprise, Fairleigh Dickinson University; Lowell B. Catlett, futurist and Regent’s Professor at New Mexico State University; Roy Beck, founder and president of the NumbersUSA Education and Research Foundation; and Felicity Barringer, national correspondent on the environment for The New York Times.

Workshop topics include such topics as green schools, the green economy, native plants, biofuels, investing in a green economy and taking action.

A special feature of this year’s conference is a kick-off celebration the evening of Nov. 5, at The Chico Grange with featured speakers discussing sustainable agriculture. Also, in addition to the workshops, there is an exhibit by artists who focus on the natural world and a poetry reading on Nov. 7, in which the readers will also read from their own works and from well-known authors on the environment.
