Visiting Molecular Biologist Has an Answer to U.S. Energy Needs

Roy Doi, PhD, a molecular biologist at UC Davis, will speak at the Biological Sciences Seminar on Friday, Nov. 17, at 4 p.m. in Holt 170. Doi was recently elected to the National Academy of Sciences for his work on how to turn agricultural waste into energy.

The title of Doi's Friday talk is "Cellulosomes: Plant Cell Wall Degrading Enzyme Complexes and Their Potential Role in Providing Biofuels." The talk is free and open to the public.

Professor Doi received his PhD from the University of Wisconsin at Madison. He has been a Distinguished Professor at UC Davis from 2003 to the present. He is a fellow in the American Academy of Microbiology and an editor of "Microbiology and Molecular Biology Reviews."

Doi has numerous publications in professional journals. His teaching interests include biochemistry, bioenergetics and metabolism, molecular biology and gene expression.
