Economist to Discuss Agriculture and Energy in Today's Lecture
The Department of Economics at California State University, Chico presents alum James Duffield in a lecture today, Thursday, Oct. 5, titled "Agriculture and Energy at the Crossroads," at 5 pm in Tehama 106.
Duffield earned a BA in economics from CSU, Chico, an MS in economics from the University of Nevada at Reno and a PhD in agricultural economics from the University of Georgia. He has worked for the U.S. Department of Agriculture for the past 19 years, first working on labor issues at the Economic Research Service and then moving to the Office of Energy Policy and New Uses in 1993.
Professor Duffield is currently working on research and policy issues related to energy use in agriculture and the economic feasibility of renewable energy. He has published numerous reports on bio-fuels and is co-editor of a recent book titled "Agriculture as a Producer and Consumer of Energy."
