Counseling Center Meets High Standards of Re-accreditation
California State University, Chico's Center for Psychological Counseling, Wellness and Testing received word this month it had been re-accredited by the International Association of Counseling Services, Inc., (IACS), a Virginia-based organization of United States, Canadian and Australian counseling agencies.
The counseling service was evaluated by IACS using rigorous standards of counseling practice and was found to offer high-quality services. Approval by IACS is dependent upon evidence of continuing professional development as well as demonstration of excellence in counseling performance. In its letter confirming re-accreditation, IACS wrote, "In its recent review of your Center, the Board (of Accreditation) was very complimentary of your program."
Only about 10 percent of colleges and universities nationally are fully accredited. CSU, Chico's counseling center has been fully accredited since 1985.
The counseling center offers individual and group counseling to enrolled students as well as clinical consultation and outreach programs to members of the campus community. It is also a training site for counseling interns.
In addition, the counseling center oversees the campus Wellness Center, which offers educational programming on a variety of health and wellness-related issues, and the Office of Testing and Research, which provides standardized testing programs and automated test scoring for classroom tests and coordinates the Student Evaluation of Teaching program each semester.
IACS was established in 1972 to encourage and aid counseling agencies to meet high professional standards through peer evaluation and to inform the public about counseling services that are competent and reliable.
