Recreation and Parks Management Student Receives Tourism Scholarship

Katy Rea, a senior majoring in resort and lodging management, California State University, Chico, was awarded the California Scholarship by Tourism Cares for Tomorrow, a national organization.

The Tourism Cares for Tomorrow scholarship is awarded to only one student in California.

"Katy is an outstanding young professional and leader among her peers," said Emilyn Sheffield, chair of the Department of Recreation and Parks Management. "She'll be a superb representative for California at the National Tour Association. Our department is proud to host the recipient of this prestigious scholarship."

Rea will work this summer in the sales department of the Hyatt Westlake Plaza Thousand Oaks and begin the Hyatt Corporate Management Training program in the fall.

"I am delighted to award this scholarship to Katy Rea, a future leader within the hospitality and tourism profession" said Bruce Beckham, executive director of Tourism Cares for Tomorrow. "Providing support and educational opportunities is one of the highest priorities of Tourism Cares for Tomorrow. During the past 20 years, more than 400 students have received scholarships, grants and other awards valued at more than $1.5 million."
