Economist to Speak on Retirement Income Security
Douglas Orr, PhD, professor of economics at Eastern Washington University, will present a lecture on retirement income security, "Changing Financial and Labor Market Outcomes: Opening and Closing the Door on Privatizing Social Security," on Monday, May 1 at 7 pm. The lecture will be held in Holt 170 on the California State University, Chico campus.
Orr's lecture will explore the changing nature of pensions, including relative risks associated with 401k(b) plans, together with calculations about the relative merits of private and public pension plans.
Orr received a PhD in economics from the University of Colorado. Prior to teaching, he spent several years engaged in applied economic research as the assistant director of the Center for Economic Analysis at the University of Colorado.
For the past 10 years, he has been doing research on the changing structure of pensions in the public and private sectors. Orr's areas of specialization are labor economics and urban and regional economics.
