Renowned Chemist's Talk Will Take You from the 'Big Bang' to the 'Big Game'

Chemist Sam Markowitz, UC Berkeley, will deliver a lecture titled "NucleoGENESIS, DEUTERONOMY, and the Origin(s) of Life???" on Fri., April 28, at 3 pm, in Ayres 106. His lecture is part of a 50th anniversary celebration of the formation in 1956 of the "Chico State College" Chapter of the Student Affiliates of the American Chemical Society, California State University, Chico.

Sam Markowitz is a research senior scientist at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory and a professor at UC, Berkeley. He and his students have carried out extensive research on nuclear reactions and atmospheric and environmental chemistry.

Markowitz's talk, which is free and open to the public, will address some large questions: How did we get here? What started it all? Is it possible to understand our origins? Is the origin of life some random event in a chaotic universe? Are there planets other than Earth that can sustain life?

In addition to the symposium with Markowitz, there will be other reunion events, including a banquet, research/education talks and a closing barbeque. For more information, contact Professor David Ball at 530-898-6496 or e-mail him at dball@csuchico.edu.
