Northern California Local Government Leadership Institute Presents Leadership Development Program
CSU, Chico Northern California Local Government Leadership Institute announces the 2006 Leadership Development Program, a seven-course series designed to help local government employees cultivate leadership skills and become more effective, proactive leaders and managers. The program will be offered in Chico and Redding.
The Leadership Development Program seeks to inspire local leaders and offer practical methods for meeting the complex demands of local government. The series provides strategies and solutions for department managers, administrative staff, supervisors, elected officials and any other local government, tribal or special district employee with an interest in developing more effective leadership skills.
The first class in the series, Redefining Leadership, launches the program in March with an examination of the core elements of exceptional leadership and how to effectively apply them in a local government environment. Subsequent courses will be Creativity & Innovation, Organizational Communication, Power and Influence Strategies, Strategic Thinking and Decision Making, The Leader's Role in Budget and Finance, and Leadership Ethics.
This practitioner-focused program is now in its third year. To maintain program improvement, the curriculum was been recently updated by respected professionals and scholars in the field. Leadership Development Program instructors and advisors include John Blacklock, retired Butte County chief executive officer; Gary Freeman, Glenn County supervisor and past president CSAC; Christine Erlandson, retired personnel director of the city of Chico; Paul Ogden, retired city manager of Auburn; Tom Lando, retired city manager of the City of Chico; Joc Clark, professional leadership development specialist; and Tim Howey, professional government leadership developer.
Chico courses start March 16-17. The Chico cohort will meet on the CSU, Chico campus, Continuing Education building, room 107. Redding courses will start March 22-23. Redding courses will meet at the Redding City Hall Conference Room, 777 Cypress Avenue, Redding.
