Annual 'Celebrate Teaching Conference' Encourages Future Educators

The Department of Education and the Liberal Studies Program at California State University, Chico will host the Celebrate Teaching conference on Wednesday, March 1, in the Bell Memorial Union Auditorium. Registration begins at 8:30 am. The conference begins at 9:00 am and runs until 1:30 pm.

The Department of Education's Integrated Teacher Core Project sponsors the conference, which caters to high school juniors and seniors who are interested in a teaching career. One hundred fifty students, representing 16 schools, are expected to attend this year.

The conference will feature interactive workshops, networking opportunities and information about career opportunities, financial aid, required courses for future teachers and campus life.

The keynote speaker is David Vixie, the latest recipient of the American Teacher of the Year award sponsored by Disney Corporation. Vixie, an 8th grade teacher at Paradise Adventist Academy, has garnered many awards throughout his career. He uses a literature-rich, integrated curriculum. His students collaborate, solve problems and apply skills in real situations where their decisions affect the outcome. His presentation will be followed by a question-and-answer session.

Lunch will be provided, along with a free T-shirt, for all participants. For more information, call the Department of Education office at 530-898-6421.
