Natural History Walks on Big Chico Creek Ecological Reserve Begin in March
The Big Chico Creek Ecological Reserve plans a series of natural history walks this spring beginning on Sunday, March 5, and then continuing on March 12, 19, April 2, 16, 30 and May 7, 14, and 21. The walks in the reserve will last two hours, from 1 to 3 pm.
Anyone wishing to participate should meet at the East lot of the Park and Ride between Eighth and Ninth streets and Hwy 99 at 12:30 pm on one of the scheduled dates. No reservations are required. The walks will be tailored to the groups' activity level and interest. (The nature of the terrain requires both up and down walking.)
Wear comfortable walking footwear and appropriate clothing. Water and binoculars are suggested. There will be no pets allowed and no smoking.
Roger Lederer, professor emeritus of biological sciences and former director of the reserve, will lead the walks. If you have questions, e-mail him at rlederer@csuchico.edu or call 898-6317.
Groups interested in a private walk at other times or dates can also contact Lederer to make individual arrangements. There is no charge for any of these walks, but a $5.00 donation will support the reserve's educational programs. They are also looking for docents to be trained for future tours.
