Walking Expert from Israel To Offer Training Session
Monday, Oct. 17, at 4:30 pm at Congregation Beth Israel, on 14th and Hemlock Streets, Edna Buckshtein, MS, parks and recreation administration, will be conducting a workshop on fitness walking. Following the workshop at 5:30 pm, she will guide a walk/practical training session to help participants with proper techniques for fitness walking.
Buckshtein was invited to Chico by Professor Michael Leitner, Department of Recreation and Parks Management, who taught in Israel with Buckshtein during the academic year of 1997-1998. He had an appointment at Zinman College of Physical Education-Wingate Institute to teach Arab/Jewish relations.
“This informative, energetic and stimulating seminar will provide participants with an opportunity to learn and experience everything they want to know about walking regarding how, why, how much, when and where to walk,” said Leitner. “Edna will provide highlights on how walking improves lifelong health, fitness, weight control, personal performance, self-esteem, family bonding, stress management and much more.”
Buckshtein is a world champion race walker. She has more than 25 years of leadership experience in promoting walking as a healthy way of life in Israel and abroad. She has won Israel’s Women’s Championship, won a silver medal at the VI World Veterans games in Rome in the 5 Km, and won a gold medal in the World Masters Games in Denmark in 1989.
Her achievements have been featured on Israeli TV and in magazines such as “Running World” and “Breut Al Buria,” a health and medicine magazine. She is the author of “Just Walk” published by Mapa Press.
Buckshtein has been a member of the faculty at Zinman College of Physical Education, Wingate Institute since 1995. She was appointed by the Israeli Ministry of Health to the National Council for Promoting Healthy lifestyles in Israel. She is an active member of the National Committee for Promoting Women in Sport in Israel.
