Business Students Launch Make-A-Wish Concert Campaign
Over the past seven years, students with the Business Resource Center (BRC) at California State University, Chico have raised over $33,000 for the Make-A-Wish foundation that serves the Northern California region.
The money raised by the BRC students has gone to children from the local area. Of the 200 wishes granted by the Sacramento foundation last year, CSU, Chico students funded three of the wishes. “Much of the success is due to the generosity of students, staff and faculty at CSU, Chico,” said Gary McMahon, adviser to the students.
The BRC students kick off their 7th annual Make-A-Wish concert campaign this week. On Dec. 6, Magic Slim and the Teardrops will perform for the 7th annual concert in the BMU Auditorium. The band sold out the Sierra Nevada Brewery a year ago. They are a Chicago Blues band with a highly respected reputation among blues fans, said McMahon.
The tickets for the concert are $5 for students and $10 for general admission. To purchase tickets, contact McMahon at 530-898-5272.
“When the BRC was created, the students wanted to create a tradition of community service,” said McMahon. “I promised them that we would carry it forward. It has been an amazingly successful project from many different perspectives.”
