Pumpkins Will Drop at Noon on Halloween
Get in the Halloween spirit as the Society of Physics Students at California State University, Chico presents the Eighteenth Annual Pumpkin Drop at high noon on Monday, October 31, on the south side of Butte Hall.
Legend has it that Galileo Galilei demonstrated his Law of Falling Bodies by climbing to the top of the Tower of Pisa so that he could drop a large ball and a small ball at the same time. Both balls hit the ground together, and his law was demonstrated.
Physics students will reenact this great moment in the history of science using pumpkins. This year, in celebration of the World Year of Physics, the host will be Albert Einstein. Aristotle, Galileo and Sir Isaac Newton will all be there to explain their theories of gravity.
“We promise you a smashing good time!” said David Kagan, chair of the Department of Physics. To contact Kagan, call 530-898-6259.
