Chico Chapter Mixer Kicks off Alumni and Parents Weekend
The fourth annual Chico Alumni Chapter Mixer will be held on Thursday, Oct. 6 at the Warrens Reception Center. It kicks off the three-day Alumni and Parents Weekend, Oct. 6-8, at California State University, Chico. The weekend will offer reunions, a Golden Grads dinner for the class of 1955, entertainment and a barbecue for parents and students.
The alumni mixer will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 pm. Alumni caterers from Pita Pit and Guzzetti’s will provide complimentary hors d’oeuvres, and there will be no-host refreshments. The theme is “Meet the Teams,” and basketball coaches Puck Smith and Lynne Roberts and the men’s and women’s basketball teams will be in attendance. The event is open to alumni and friends of the University. Call 898-6472 to RSVP.
Other highlights of the weekend include the Class of 1955 social hour and dinner, Friday at 6:00 pm at the Holiday Inn and the Golden Grad luncheon at 11:15 am, Bell Memorial Union Auditorium on Saturday morning. The opening of the 1935, 1945 and 1955 time capsules will begin at 1:15 pm, Saturday, on the Kendall Hall lawn.
Also on Saturday, the Alumni and Parents Weekend Annual BBQ will be held from 11:30 am until 1 pm on the Kendall Hall lawn. The College of Agriculture will hold its Fall Festival at the University Farm from 5 pm until midnight. The festival will offer farm tours, a state of the college address, wine and cheese tasting, a tri-tip dinner, a program honoring Hall of Honor inductees and a dance.
Another important event Saturday evening, the Athletic Hall of Fame, will begin at 5:30 pm with a no-host social hour in the BMU Auditorium. Former CSU, Chico athletes and coaches will be honored at the dinner.
Associated Students is also hosting a reception for former students involved with A.S. This reception will take place Saturday at 6:30 pm in the second floor lounge at the BMU. Contact Maggie Taylor at 898-5701 to RSVP.
“We look forward every year to alumni and parents coming back to campus,” said Sue Anderson, director of Alumni and Parent Relations. “Even though the campus is in the heart of Chico, many local alumni don’t visit the campus on a regular basis. We hope local alumni will come to the Thursday evening Fall Mixer.”
There are many other individual college activities, class reunions and special receptions. Call the Alumni Office at 530-898-4547 for more information, or go to the Alumni and Parents Weekend Web site for complete details about events and registration.
