CSU, Chico Osher Lifelong Learning Institute Awarded $100,000 Grant
The California State University, Chico Osher Lifelong Learning Institute, a peer-led, learning-in-retirement organization, has recently been awarded second-year funding from the Bernard Osher Foundation. The $100,000 grant follows last year’s grant in the same amount supporting the establishment of an Osher Lifelong Learning Institute on the Chico campus.
In 2004, CSU, Chico opened an Osher Lifelong Learning Institute on campus and incorporated Prime Timers - the University’s existing organization offering learning opportunities for seniors and retirees - into a national network of 73 Osher Institutes. During the last year, membership at CSU, Chico has grown and the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute now supports more than 500 active members.
The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute provides intellectual stimulation and a meeting ground for adults aged 60 or retired (and spouses of any age) to explore new topics, discuss current events and network with other talented and interesting seniors. Members actively engage in more than 30 classes led by retired professors and others each semester ranging in topics from European art to complementary medicine.
Individuals aged 60 or retired interested in joining the CSU, Chico Osher Lifelong Learning Institute are invited to the welcome back meeting on Wednesday, Aug. 17, at the Chico Family Masonic Center from 10 a.m. to noon. Peer-led courses begin Aug. 22 and registration is available at the welcome back meeting.
For a schedule of courses and more information, please visit the CSU, Chico Osher Lifelong Learning Institute Web site or call the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at 898-6679, Monday through Thursday between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m.
