KCHO Honored for Excellence
California State University, Chico’s KCHO radio has been given the distinction in a recent study by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) of “soaring” in financial health and audience service.
The honor was announced at the winter meeting of California Public Radio during a presentation of a study of the financial health of public radio, said Jack Brown, KCHO’s station manager. To be considered in excellent financial health, a station’s operating revenue must be exceeded by its net revenue by 5 percent. KCHO has net revenue of 7 percent, Brown said.
KCHO is the only California station to have received the honor, Brown said. Only 10 percent of stations nationwide are classified as soaring by CPB.
The study examined financial and audience service records of public radio stations from 1999 to 2003.
