Coordinator of Diversity Efforts Named
Tray Robinson, counselor in the Office of Admissions, has been appointed to the newly created position of coordinator of diversity efforts at California State University, Chico.
Robinson, a 1995 CSU, Chico alumnus and admissions counselor since 2000, will begin his new post in July.
“This position emphasizes the University’s commitment to build and serve an educational community enriched by the diversity of the people who come here to work and study,” said CSU, Chico President Paul Zingg. “Tray enjoys great respect among his colleagues and with our students because he is focused on enabling Chico State to be an exemplary learning and caring institution. I have enormous confidence in his abilities and am grateful that he will take on this important assignment.”
Robinson will work with the president, provost and vice president for student affairs as part of an executive team to help define University goals related to diversity. Planned duties will include facilitating campus diversity activities, serving as a point of contact for external constituencies and developing grants and private funding to assist the University in meeting its diversity goals.
The coordinator of diversity efforts is a half-time position that could be expanded to full-time in the future, Zingg said.
Among Robinson’s duties in the Office of Admissions are planning recruitment events for MESA (Mathematics Engineering Science Achievement) and EOP (Educational Opportunity Program), serving as a campus representative for the University at statewide conferences and college fairs and supervising Student Ambassadors and their recruitment activities with prospective students.
Prior to working for Admissions, Robinson was an EOP advisor from May 1998 to August 2000. He also served as a resident director for University Housing and Food Service from July 1996 to May 2000. While a student, Robinson was a Residence Hall Association president, Ethnic Greek Council vice president and member of the Pan African Union.
