Manuel Esteban Honored at College of Agriculture’s
Fall Festival
More than 450 alumni, students, parents and community members crowded the University Farm pavilion last weekend to celebrate the CSU, Chico College of Agriculture’s annual Fall Festival.
The party was held Saturday, Oct. 9, beginning with farm tours and other activities. Guests were treated to a wine and cheese tasting, featuring wines generously donated by Sierra Starr, Beringer and Clos du Bois, and cheese donated by Sierra Nevada Cheese Company. Guests also enjoyed a tri-tip dinner, a no-host bar, DJ and dancing, and a parent and alumni social. Special thanks to Butte County Cattlemen.
The college recognized Hall of Honor inductee and CSU, Chico President Emeritus Manuel Esteban, along with scholarship donors, during the evening program.
“It was because of his faith in the faculty and recognition that the College of Agriculture was important to the North State that we have been able to enhance our programs and increase our enrollment,” says College of Agriculture dean Charles Crabb. Crabb also presented an award to Superior Ag for 12 years of program support. President Myron Openshaw accepted the award on behalf of the organization.
Superior Ag held a raffle to raise money for scholarships. Raffle prizes include an overnight stay at Cockrell High Desert Lodging, tickets for the Shasta Dinner Train, a guided fishing trip, cases of wine, gift baskets and other items. The college also raffled off an alumni sweatshirt to alumni who dropped off their business cards.
Established in 1991, the Fall Festival had an initial goal to recognize those who have significantly impacted the direction of the agricultural programs at CSU, Chico. It has since evolved to incorporate a celebration bringing students, their parents, alumni, friends and supporters together. It is also an opportunity for the College of Agriculture to share with the community the many things it has to offer.
Fall Festival is sponsored each October by the CSU, Chico College of Agriculture and Superior Ag, an auxiliary organization that helps support the college mission.
