Museum of Anthropology to Offer Hmong Exhibit

The Museum of Anthropology, California State University, Chico, will open a new exhibit, “Moving Mountains: A Cultural Journey of the Hmong of Butte County,” on Dec. 7. The exhibit will run through July 2005.

“Moving Mountains” chronicles the history of the Hmong people from Laos, Vietnam and Thailand to the United States, in particular to Butte County. Artifacts, textiles, stories and music tell the displacement and relocation story of the Hmong people.

The exhibit also offers information on the social context and political struggle within Southeast Asia that sparked immigration

The museum is open Tuesday-Saturday, 11 AM-3 PM. It will be closed during the campus winter break from Dec. 18 to Jan. 3.

Call for special events calendar listings and to schedule a tour. Adrienne Scott, curator, 530-898-5397.
