World Music Education Workshop: Bring the World’s Music to Your Classroom
California State University, Chico Continuing Education announces World Music Education Workshop: Bring the World’s Music to Your Classroom, featuring Dr. Patricia Shehan Campbell, a music educator from the University of Washington School of Music and an expert on multicultural music.
Bring the World’s Music to Your Classroom will be presented Monday, June 14, and Tuesday, June 15, from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. at the Performing Arts Center, rooms 132 and 134, on the CSU, Chico campus. The fee for this course, RCED 920P-40, is $150. One unit of academic credit is available for an additional $45 fee by registering for MUS 289A. This two-day workshop is designed to help educators integrate cross-cultural music learning into the classroom and teach important multicultural concepts through music. The lively presentation provides an opportunity for elementary through high school teachers and interested community members to learn new dimensions in multicultural education and expand their students’ understanding of world music. Instruction will incorporate the use of songs, games, dances and instruments.
Dr. Patricia Shehan Campbell is the author of “Teaching Music Globally, Songs in Their Heads, Music in Cultural Context, Multicultural Perspectives in Music Education” and “Lessons from the World.” She currently teaches undergraduate and graduate music education, including music for children, sociology of music, and research methods, at the University of Washington School of Music.
