Former Educational Support Programs Director
Heads Scholarship Program
The importance of scholarships at California State University, Chico is highlighted with the announcement that Martha Williams, former director of Educational Support Programs, has assumed responsibilities for the University’s scholarship program.
Coordinating scholarships has been and will continue to be a part of the University’s financial aid program. To reinforce the relationship, the program has been renamed the Financial Aid and Scholarship Office.
Williams served in Educational Support Programs for 25 years, including 20 as director. In her new role as assistant director of scholarships, she will work to strengthen communication and collaboration among the various entities involved in scholarship awards, including colleges and academic departments, University Advancement, University Foundation and donors. She will also work to streamline the scholarship process.
“Martha’s long commitment to students with financial need, coupled with her years of university experience, brings new leadership to the scholarship program at a critical time for scholarship development,” said Vice President for Student Affairs Jim Moon.
The University has almost 800 scholarships. Many of the scholarships are established by donors who designate criteria for recipients. Applicants are matched with scholarships through a selection and decision process. In some cases, those receiving scholarships get to meet donors at special events.
“Scholarships are the means by which many students realize their dream of a high-quality college education,” said CSU, Chico President Paul Zingg. “They are also an opportunity for donors to have the great satisfaction of helping students in a vital way.”
