Business Administration Student Named McGowan Scholar
Amanda C. Johnson, a business administration major at California State University, Chico, will receive a full tuition scholarship from the William G. McGowan Charitable Fund for the 2004-2005 academic year.
The William G. McGowan award, available to students enrolled in accredited business schools throughout the United States, honors applicants who achieve academic excellence, demonstrate leadership skills, possess an entrepreneurial spirit, display excellence of character and are committed to the community through service activities.
Established in honor of William G. McGowan, the telecommunication pioneer who developed the MCI Communications Corporation, the William G. McGowan Charitable Fund Inc. is located in Washington, D.C. The fund provides financial assistance to outstanding students who are continuing their education in the field of business.
Johnson, who is taking an option in small business/entrepreneurship, possesses an impressive academic record and was highly recommended by her professors. She is a full-time student who also provides tutoring services to students participating in home school programs and has served as a volunteer at the Butte County Library.
Johnson, now 17, first attended CSU, Chico at the age of 15 through the High School Honors Program.
“The McGowan scholars program allows us to honor our most successful students and to provide them with the assistance they need to continue their education,” said Steve Adams, dean of the College of Business and chair of the selection committee. “Ms. Johnson is a fine example of the students we are able to recognize for their outstanding effort.”
Fully accredited since 1972 by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business, the CSU, Chico College of Business provides instructional programs that are characterized by technological innovation and experiential learning.
