Chapter of International Computer Science Honor Society Celebrates 30th Anniversary

The California State University, Chico chapter of Upsilon Pi Epsilon (UPE), an international computer science honor society, celebrates its 30th anniversary with a banquet this Sunday, April 25, at the Bell Memorial Union.

Chapter alumni, friends and student members will gather Sunday to celebrate the distinguished history of the chapter, which was the first in the region. In 1974, through the leadership of faculty and students, CSU, Chico became the first university on the West Coast to be granted a charter. In recognition of this effort, CSU, Chico was named the Alpha chapter of California.

UPE’s membership consists of outstanding undergraduate and graduate students in the computer and information sciences who are dedicated to the promotion of the computer and information sciences through community service.

UPE is the first and only international honor society in the computing and information disciplines. UPE was first organized at Texas A&M University in 1967. The international organization now consists of chapters in various colleges and universities throughout the world.
