Students in Free Enterprise Hosts High School
Entrepreneurship Competition and Annual Youth Trade Fair

On Saturday, March 27, two special events for youth entrepreneurship hosted by Students in Free Enterprises (SIFE) will take place at California State University, Chico.

The California Students for the Advancement of Global Entrepreneurship (SAGE) Competition will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m., and the “Wise Kid, Healthy Kid” International Trade Fair will be from 12 to 4 p.m. in Acker Gym.

The California SAGE Competition is one of SIFE’s largest projects. It is structured like a tournament consisting of 16 high school teams with five leagues and three teams per league. High schools across the state are represented. Over $16,000 in scholarship and prize money will be awarded at the banquet following the competition.

The teams will present their entrepreneurial and community service projects to panels of judges. Rounds one and two will take place in Glenn Hall from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The championship round will be held from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. in Harlen Adams Theatre, and the awards banquet will be held from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. in the BMU Auditorium.

The third annual “Wise Kid, Healthy Kid” International Trade Fair will feature 140 local young entrepreneurs who have completed “Wise Kid, Healthy Kid” Youth Entrepreneurship Camps in Chico or Chester. The young entrepreneurs will be selling their goods and services to the public, along with crafts from Chile, the Philippines, Poland, Russia and China. The public is invited to attend the fair.

For further information on either the California SAGE Competition or the International Trade Fair, please contact Curt DeBerg, CSU, Chico accounting professor and faculty adviser to SIFE, at 530-898-4824.
