National Social Work Association Officer
Will Speak to Students of Social Work

Stacie Hiramoto, vice president of the National Association of Social Work (NASW) Board of Directors, will visit the California State University, Chico campus on Tuesday, March 30, in honor of National Social Work Month. She will meet with faculty, students and community professionals from 6:30 until 9 p.m. in Kendall 207.

Hiramoto will speak on empowerment, current issues in social work and the necessity of mutual support through such organizations as the NASW. Her talk, free and open to all, will be followed by questions and answers and a reception.

Hiramoto, a human services program planner in the Senior and Adult Services Division of Sacramento County, introduces older Americans to new technologies. She received her MSW from the University of California at Berkeley.

NASW has been an integral part of Hiramoto’s career. After serving on the statewide Conference Planning Committee and CALPACE, the political action committee, she was appointed to the National Legislative Committee. She was elected chapter vice president of Community Affairs and to the Delegate Assembly three times and later hired as chapter director of Government Relations and Political Affairs.

Hiramoto also served as a national board member of NARPA, a mental health rights organization. As a lobbyist, Capital staff member, program director and case manager, she has advanced the causes of vulnerable and oppressed people.

Her visit is being sponsored by the CSU, Chico School of Social Work, the Student Association of Social Workers, NASW, as well as NASW California Chapter, Section D.
