Journalism Chair Named Interim Vice Provost for Research

Professor Katherine Milo, chair of the Department of Journalism, has been named interim vice provost for research at California State University, Chico.

Milo will retain her position as journalism chair as well as serve in her new post for the 2004-05 academic year.

Milo will direct CSU, Chico’s Office of Sponsored Programs. The office helps CSU, Chico faculty and staff propose and manage grant and contract awards from external funding sources.

Milo has been chair of the journalism department since 1994 and a faculty member since 1981. She received her Ed.D. from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.

“She brings a wealth of experience and energy to this important position,” said Scott McNall, provost and vice president for academic affairs. “Her considerable experience in grant and contract activity will allow the Office of Sponsored Programs to continue to function smoothly.”

Milo has been the director of a wide range of sponsored projects for the State of California. She has developed programs to communicate new state welfare programs and regulations, directed the statewide campaign to promote awareness of the financial responsibilities of parenthood and directed educational campaigns focused on non-working welfare recipients. Since coming to CSU, Chico she has brought in more than $3 million in grants and contracts.
