Ukrainian Agriculture Professionals to Study Marketing
The Office of International Programs at California State University, Chico, will provide an intensive 10-day study tour, March 8 to March 17, in Northern California for 13 Ukrainian agriculture professionals. The program is designed to educate the participants in the theory and practice of marketing agricultural products in the United States, and to help them generate ideas and processes for improving the marketing system in Ukraine. This program emphasizes mobilizing the private sector to help itself through industry associations, farmer groups and other private sector organizations.
A broad range of visits have been identified to use as case studies for demonstrating successful strategies for stimulating the growth of organized agricultural markets. Classroom lecturers and 16 technical site visits have been scheduled, including a highly diversified set of private firms, cooperatives, educational institutions and government agencies that encompass the entire marketing chain from farm to retail market. The tour will include agriculturally active areas along the California coast, plus inland processors who use stored ingredients. Loren Parks, lead trainer, has extensive domestic and international experience in agricultural marketing, including an assignment in Ukraine in 2001. He has also worked in other countries in the region: Poland, Georgia and the Kyrgyz Republic.
