Student-run Agency Wins Regional Public Relations Awards
Competing against professional agencies, Tehama Group Communications, California State University, Chico’s student-managed public relations agency, has won two prestigious awards from the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC), Sacramento chapter.
The Crystal awards will be presented at the IABC chapter’s annual awards ceremony tomorrow, May 22, at the Hilton Sacramento Arden West Hotel.
Tehama Group Communications received awards for newsletter production and news release writing. The agency entered issues of last year’s Comm newsletter, which is written and produced each semester for the College of Communication and Education’s School of Communication. The winning news release was prepared for another agency client, the American Lung Association’s Chico chapter.
IABC/Sacramento has more than 100 members, and received more than 200 entries in more than 20 categories for its Crystal Award competition. Tehama Group Communications’ student-produced work was judged alongside professionally produced work.
IABC is an exclusive network of more than 13,000 business communication and public relations professionals in more than 60 countries.
In other news, Tehama Group Communications will be profiled in the next edition of The Practice of Public Relations, a nationally recognized textbook by Fraser Seitel. Keith Sheldon, Tehama Group Communications faculty adviser, said this is the first time a student-managed public relations agency has appeared in the textbook.
Founded in 1990, Tehama Group Communications is the nation’s oldest student-managed public relations agency. The agency gives students the opportunity to gain practical, hands-on public relations experience in an educational setting.
Tehama Group Communications has acquired local, regional and national clients, including two Chicken Soup for the Soul books, the United Way, American Lung Association and Clark County of Nevada.
