Forum Provides Facts About Designer Drugs
Drug consultant Trinka Porrata will discuss Ecstasy and other designer drugs in an educational forum Wednesday, April 16, at 7 p.m. in the Bell Memorial Union Auditorium on the California State University, Chico campus.
This event is sponsored by the Campus Alcohol and Drug Education Center (CADEC), and is free and open to the public.
Porrata has worked in law enforcement with the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) for the past 25 years. She spent three and a half years as an expert on drug abuse in clubs, specifically Rohypnol, GHB, Ecstasy, Special K and LSD. Porrata has assisted in California legislation concerning Rohypnol and GHB and is working on federal legislation to control GHB nationwide.
Porrata was among the first group of women to become a LAPD field certified officer in the Narcotics Division, working in asset forfeiture and as a supervisor in “street” narcotics squads. Since retiring in 1999, Porrata offers training, consultation and expert testimony on the abuse of club drugs nationwide. She has written several books, pamphlets and scripts about club drugs and speaks to students, parents, law enforcement, medical personnel and counselors worldwide.
CADEC, established in 1988, is a nonprofit campus organization that works to alter student attitudes concerning the use and abuse of alcohol and other drugs. The goal of the center is to provide educational and social activities that raise awareness about alcohol and drugs.
