Honors Society Recognizes Graduates

The Phi Kappa Phi honors society is recognizing 174 graduating members in a medallion ceremony on Thursday, May 8, from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. in the Harlen Adams Theatre, PAC 144, on the California State University, Chico campus.

President Manuel Esteban and the college deans will be present to congratulate the graduates, who will be awarded medallions in recognition of their accomplishments. The ceremony is open to the public with music by the Chico Brass Choir.

Another 171 students will be initiated for the first time into Phi Kappa Phi based on their cumulative grade point average. Also, the name of the National Fellowship nominee and the Dorothea Powers Scholarship winner will be announced at the ceremony.

Members are nominated for being in the top five percent of undergraduate students in each college. They must have reached second semester junior status or higher to be recognized. Also, graduate students in the top 2.5 percent with at least 15 units are qualified for nomination.

Students established the CSU, Chico chapter of Phi Kappa Phi, a national scholastic honor society, in 1962 to recognize outstanding achievements and promote the pursuit of excellence in all fields of higher education.
