CAPE Forum to Discuss Possible War with Iraq
At a forum on Thursday, Nov. 7, the Center for Applied and Professional Ethics (CAPE) at California State University, Chico will discuss whether the United States should go to war with Iraq. The forum will begin at 7 p.m. in Harlen Adams Theatre.
The four-member forum will proceed from the premise that a “just war tradition” is legitimate, and then ask whether or not the specific case of an attack on Iraq meets the burden of justifying war, and also whether that war would be fought justly.
Speakers at the forum will be Tom Imhoff, Department of Philosophy, Jim Claflin, Department of Geography and Planning, Jim Jacob, Department of Political Science and Doug Campbell, Department of Recreation and Parks Management.
“This is an important topic,” said religious studies professor Andrew Flescher, director of CAPE and moderator of the discussion. “Students’ perceptions-which are informed by university debates such as this one-have a varying impact on our country’s decision makers.”
All forums are free and open to the public.
CAPE was established by the College of Humanities and Fine Arts in 1987 to assist in furthering the teaching, research and community service missions of the university. For more information, contact Flescher at 530-898-5534.
