Business Leaders to Speak at SIFE Fundraiser

Former Minnesota Vikings quarterback and National Football League MVP Joe Kapp and Chico Heat owner Steve Nettleton are appearing as keynote speakers at the Friends of SIFE Banquet Oct. 25. The fundraiser for the California State University, Chico Students in Free Enterprise program will be held at the Lakeside Pavilion in Chico at 7 p.m.

Using sports as a metaphor for life, Kapp will discuss how entrepreneurs can achieve a competitive edge by integrating teamwork and cooperation. Nettleton will speak on the importance of social entrepreneurship.

“It has always been a strong feeling of mine that America’s businesspersons should remember that giving back to their communities is a form of thanks to the people who made them successful,” said Nettleton. “Being a good corporate citizen is not an option, it’s a duty.”

The event is open to the public and will feature a silent auction, dinner and dancing. Entertainment will be provided by The Midwest City Quartet. Tickets are being sold for $35 per plate. Businesses are encouraged to sponsor a nine-seat table for a donation of $550 at the silver level or $1,000 at the gold level.

Funds raised from the banquet will be used primarily to send three SIFE students on a free enterprise mission to Ghana, Botswana and South Africa in January to teach women and children basic economic, entrepreneurship and technology skills. For more information, call SIFE at 530-898-5888.

SIFE is a student-led organization that integrates free-enterprise education and community service programs that make a difference in our local, national and global communities.
