Orchardists Invited to Third Orchard Field Day

Area growers, crop advisers and homeowners are invited to the third Orchard Field Day this Thursday, June 27, to be held at the Paul L. Byrne Agricultural Teaching and Research Center (University Farm), California State University, Chico.

The day, which begins at 8 a.m. at the farm, is sponsored in cooperation with University of California Cooperative Extension. The focus will be on new developments in the three most important orchard crops in Butte County: almonds, prunes and walnuts.

Topics for the day will include using the Global Imaging System, new techniques for hedging/pruning, irrigation scheduling and the latest information on pest and disease control. Participants can receive 2.5 hours of continuing education credit.

Pre-registration is not required, and $10 tickets for lunch will be sold at the door on a first-come, first-served basis.
