Center for Economic Development Hosts Tourism Marketing Workshop

The Center for Economic Development at California State University, Chico is hosting a Tourism Marketing Workshop on Friday, June 28, from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Red Lion Hotel, 1830 Hilltop Drive, Redding, Calif.

The first half of the workshop, titled “The 25 Immutable Rules of Successful Tourism,” is an ideal primer, particularly for rural areas looking for increased tourism. The topics include beautification, signage (public and private), events, critical mass, pedestrian areas, attractions, visitor amenities, retail mix, marketing, advertising and public relations.

The second half of the workshop, “Tourism Marketing on a Miniscule Budget,” will show how to develop press kits, press releases, and public service announcements and how to get them on the air; what works and doesn’t in advertising; where to advertise and how to see a return on advertising investment.

The workshop is intended for city staff, elected officials, chamber of commerce directors and staff, local businesses with an interest in tourism, tourism organizations, museum managers and staff of area attractions.

Roger Brooks, workshop instructor, is founding member of the award-winning Chandler, Brooks & Donahoe and one of the country’s authorities on the subject of tourism marketing and development. Brooks is well known for his tell-it-like-it-is style and step-by-step instructions for helping communities “make something happen,” his bottom-line approach resulting in highly successful projects.

Registration is $125 per person on or before June 25 and $150 per person after June 25. You can register online at www.store.yahoo.com/northstate or call the center at 530-898-4598.
