Up ’til Dawn Philanthropic Event to Take Place at CSU, Chico

California State University, Chico will participate in the Up ‘til Dawn event on Friday, May 10 from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. on campus in the Free Speech Area and Bell Memorial Union Auditorium. CSU, Chico is one of approximately 100 universities nationwide participating in the program and the only CSU campus to raise money for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, Tenn.

St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is the largest research center in the world and treats patients struggling with catastrophic diseases without cost. Students participating in the philanthropic event are sponsored by friends and families to stay Up ‘til Dawn in memory of the patients and families of the hospital.

The night will include catered food in the Free Speech Area from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. where university faculty and staff are invited to ask questions or volunteer. From 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. volunteers will enjoy food, live bands, dancing, comedians and arts and crafts in the BMU Auditorium.

The event is a culmination of almost a year’s work by more than 400 CSU, Chico students who have raised approximately $25,000 for the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Eight-year-old Jessie Rose Bradley from Corning is a St. Jude patient and will be at the event with her parents to tell their success story and experiences at the research hospital.

St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital treats patients from more than 80 countries and is an international training center for treating kids affected by catastrophic diseases. All research results are free information to the public and protocol from St. Jude is used to treat patients at every major medical center in the world, including Stanford and Davis.

Although St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital costs approximately $1 million a day to operate, it treats all patients without regard to race, religion or creed and never asks for any compensation. St. Jude will transport patients to the hospital in Tennessee or set up satellites to assist local doctors in treating patients.

Sponsors of the event include CSU, Chico Associated Students and Residence Hall Association, Holiday Inn of Chico, Regent Broadcasting of Chico Inc., Mr. Kopy and Chevy’s Mexican Restaurant.
