Columnist to Speak at Leadership Skills Conference in Chico

Northern California Local Government Leadership Institute, a partnership of local government leaders, Humboldt State University and California State University, Chico, presents Leadership Skills in an Era of Reduced Financial Resources, a one-day conference, Monday, June 17, 9 a.m.-3 p.m., on the CSU, Chico campus.

The Leadership Skills conference will feature noted Sacramento Bee political columnist and author Dan Walters. Walters will present the lunch-hour keynote speech, offering his insight into the legislative process and the effects of state actions on local government.

Key decision-makers at all levels of local government—counties, cities, special districts and tribal governing organizations—are invited to attend this special leadership skills event.

The morning panel discussion will focus on how to survive the current state budget crisis followed by an afternoon session on media and community involvement. Both morning and afternoon panels will feature regional experts in the field and be moderated by retired Butte County Administrative Officer John Blacklock.

Registration is $95 before June 12 and $105 after June 12. Registration fees include conference materials, continental breakfast and lunch. Four or more participants from the same organization are eligible for a group rate.

Established in the fall of 2001, the Northern California Local Government Leadership Institute’s mission is to serve northern California local government leaders with continuing executive leadership education and resources. Leadership Institute events provide an opportunity for county, city, tribal government and special district governing board members, executives and managers to develop proactive leadership skills and address critical issues facing the region. The June 17 conference is the third event sponsored by the institute.
