The new fee payment deadline for fall semester 2002 is Thursday, August 1, 2002, and Thursday, December 19, 2002 for spring 2003, several weeks earlier than in previous years.

Students who do not pay registration fees or confirm financial aid applicant status on or before this date will not be allowed to add classes until their fees are paid or financial aid applicant status has been confirmed. Additionally, students who fail to meet the fee payment deadline may lose all requested classes.

The new fee payment deadline is earlier because the university wants to provide more time for students to pay fees before their classes are dropped. The previous deadline, Thursday of the week before classes began, did not allow time for students to rectify their problem with payment or financial aid confirmation, and consequently, each semester many of the 1,200 students who failed to pay fees or confirm financial aid were disenrolled. Moving the deadline to an earlier date will allow for early notification and provide time for students to either pay fees or confirm financial aid applicant status and preserve their classes before the university is in session.
