University Launches Campus Pride Project
The Associated Students at California State University, Chico is launching an ongoing campus pride project that will include two events and new additions to the campus.
“Go Chico!” is an Associated Students project to honor student organizations and restore pride among the CSU, Chico campus community. It is intended to enhance campus unity by focusing on student achievements and values.
The first event, a “Go Chico!” dinner, will take place on Monday, March 11, at 6:30 p.m. in the Bell Memorial Union and will honor student organizations for contributing to and raising the campus standard academically and socially. The leaders of more than 250 campus clubs and organizations play a role in the quality of life, education and community for CSU, Chico students.
The second event, “Go Chico! Day,” is scheduled for Saturday, May 4, and will celebrate the great achievements and potential that lies within university academics, student organizations and social opportunities. Some of the events of that day include live bands, give away of “Go Chico!” apparel, student organizations booths, a showcase of accomplishments and a community picnic and barbecue.
Future additions of the project include setting a room aside in the BMU for student organizations to collaborate and network to create common goals. The project will also include creating a “Go Chico!” Web site to announce student club and organization events and showcase student achievements. “Go Chico!” logos will be placed around campus to increase awareness of the project.
The Associated Students hopes to see “Go Chico!” become a lifestyle where community, relationships, excellence and honor create a belief that the best thing CSU, Chico has to offer is the people within the university.
According to an Associated Students report, “Go Chico!” emerged from California State University Long Beach’s “Beach Pride” campaign. It has since been adopted by the University Affairs council of California State Student Association and is open to all CSU student associations that wish to install the project on their campus.
