CSU, Chico Holds Conference to Celebrate Teaching

The Department of Education and the Liberal Studies Program at California State University, Chico, in collaboration with the Integrated Teacher CORE Project, are sponsoring the sixth annual Celebrate Teaching Conference on Wednesday, March 6. The conference will be held in the Bell Memorial Union on the CSU, Chico campus from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Students from 12 local high schools, accompanied by teacher sponsors, will participate in interactive classes facilitated by CSU, Chico education professors. They will receive information about career opportunities, financial aid, required courses and campus life.

The highlight of the event will be a presentation by keynote speaker Ana Solar Byerly, from Buenos Dias Business and Educational Services. Byerly, an educator and motivational speaker from Sonoma, California, will share her experiences of being raised bilingual and bicultural as well as her message that a powerful voice is the voice educated in two languages.

Participants will be treated to lunch, T-shirts and the music of the Gumboots, courtesy of the CSU, Chico music department, to finish the day.

A schedule of events follows. For more information, contact the CSU, Chico Department of Education at 530-898-6421.
