Piano Students Invited to Chico for Keyboard Encounter 2002
The Keyboard Encounter 2002 will be held at California State University, Chico, on February 9. Formerly called the Bach Keyboard Encounter, this master class and recital event for students of all ages from Northern California has been held annually since 1990.
The following music faculty will serve as adjudicators, performers and presenters of special sessions: Robert Bowman (director, solo/ensemble master classes improvisation class), John Milbauer (solo/ensemble master classes), Deborah Reinhardt (creative musicianship classes) and Jeff Forehan (introduction to midi).
The day’s activities will begin in the Performing Arts Center with registration 7:30 a.m.Ð8:15 a.m., morning adjudication/mini-master classes, a children’s creative musicianship class, a beginner’s recital and a faculty/staff recital.
During the afternoon, intermediate and advanced participants will attend three special sessions. Choices include classes in conducting, creative musicianship, improvisation, introduction to organ and relaxation for musicians. Special session classes will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis.
The day will end with recitals by the intermediate and advanced participants. The intermediate student recital will begin at 3:10 p.m., and the advanced recital at 4:30 p.m. The public is invited at no charge to all of the recitals, including the faculty/ staff recital at noon.
North State music teachers and performers Joyce Groshong, Don Ericson. Richard Fiske, Tienne Beaulieu, Leslie Lundberg, Mark Latham and Dustin Breshears will participate as adjuticators and instructors. Groshong, Lundberg and Latham all received bachelor’s and master’s degrees from CSU, Chico in music.
Organist Marion Metson, former dean of the American Guild of Organists, will be a special guest faculty member. Professors Milbauer and Bowman, Leslie Lundberg, Joyce Groshong, Marion Metson and selected students will perform in the Faculty/Staff Recital.
